Pitcher Mason Adams, acquired by the Colorado Rockies from the Chicago White Sox at the trade deadline, swiftly proved himself in the minor leagues to earn a call-up for his MLB debut.
After moving from Chicago to Colorado in an August 3 trade, Adams showcased his skills in three starts. The right-hander conceded just three runs and nine hits over 13 innings while playing at Triple-A Albuquerque, known for its hitter-friendly altitude. In two home starts with the Isotopes, Adams gave up only one run across nine innings.
According to Thomas Harding on Twitter/X, Adams will make his major league debut for the Rockies against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday.
The trade brought Adams and infielder Carlos Vielma to Colorado in exchange for outfielder Brenton Doyle. Prior to the trade, Adams recorded a 3-4 win-loss record with a 3.86 ERA in 49 innings, along with 21 earned runs and 48 strikeouts across three minor league levels. At Triple-A Charlotte, he pitched in nine outings, achieving a 3-3 record with a 4.25 ERA over 36 innings, allowing 17 earned runs and striking out 36 batters.
The upcoming game against the Nationals marks a significant milestone in Adams’ career following a challenging season, as he missed the 2025 season due to Tommy John surgery.
Coincidentally, the Rockies are also promoting right-handed pitcher Blake Adams on Monday, August 24. He replaces veteran left-hander Kyle Freeland, who is on the 15-day injured list due to a pinched nerve in his neck. Blake Adams, 25, will make his debut after compiling a 2-5 win-loss record and an 8.10 ERA in 17 games for Albuquerque this season.
Both Adams and Vielma are providing promising results early on, with Vielma showing impressive statistics in the Dominican Summer League. The Rockies look forward to evaluating Mason Adams closely as he could play a key role in their future plans.
