Illegal Immigrant Accused of Murder in California
A Venezuelan illegal immigrant is accused of fatally stabbing a father in a California sanctuary city. This incident took place just a day after the suspect was released by a local judge on his recognizance. Federal authorities are asking Governor Gavin Newsom to hand over the suspect for deportation.
Drug Distribution Charges in Virginia
Isaac Melendez-Carranza, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, faced a final deportation order since 2024. He was caught at the Texas border in 2016 and released on bond before his recent arrest in Virginia. Melendez-Carranza, 31, was arrested on August 20 and charged with distributing fentanyl near a high school.
“ICE lodged a detainer on August 20 for Isaac Melendez-Carranza, an illegal alien from El Salvador, with the Loudoun County Jail,” a DHS spokesperson informed.
Melendez-Carranza is detained without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
History of Arrest
He was first arrested by U.S. Border Patrol in Texas in May 2016 after entering the U.S. illegally via the Rio Grande. He was released on bond in July 2016. DHS criticized the Biden administration for not taking action against him when encountered in Virginia in August 2024.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office identified him as a suspected drug dealer tied to overdoses at Park View High School.
Seizure of Drugs and Cash
During a home search, deputies found 100 pills and about $1,000. Multiple students were hospitalized from suspected overdoses at the school in May.
Loudoun County Public Schools confirmed two students suffered nonfatal overdoses during school hours, with more taken for evaluations afterward.
Further Developments
Sheriff Mike Chapman emphasized the danger of illicit drugs reaching students. “He’s here illegally, and if he wasn’t, this wouldn’t have happened. We take that seriously,” he stated. When Melendez-Carranza’s charges are resolved, he will be handed over to ICE.
More arrests may follow, but there is no set timeline.
ICE Policies
Under Trump’s administration, ICE focused on arrests of aliens charged or convicted of crimes, with nearly 70% fitting this criteria.
