On Monday night, Angel Reese made history in the WNBA by smashing multiple records during a game against the Los Angeles Sparks. The Atlanta Dream star was exceptional in her rebounding effort, securing an incredible 26 rebounds, setting the record for the most rebounds in a single game.
Reese didn’t stop there. She also surpassed the season rebound record, grabbing her 452nd rebound during the game, overtaking the previous record held by A’ja Wilson. By the end of the game, Reese added six more rebounds, bringing her total to 458 for this historic season, with more games still to come.
Teammates and Reactions
Reese’s outstanding performance left her teammate Allisha Gray impressed. Gray expressed her admiration, noting that she had never managed to reach such rebounding numbers herself. “That’s just a talent,” Gray remarked about Reese’s ability to dominate the boards.
I don’t think in my life I got more than 10 rebounds. Watching her rebound is just a talent.
Reese appeared on NBC/Peacock’s postgame show to discuss her approach to rebounding. Joined by legendary player Tina Charles, Reese shared her mindset, stating, “Anything that goes up is mine. You just have to have that mindset.” She also credited learning from greats like Charles, aspiring to join their ranks throughout her career.
Season Success
Reese, now in her third season, is already making her mark with two of the top three rebounding seasons in league history. Only A’ja Wilson shares this distinction with Reese. During the game, Reese not only set records, she aided her team in securing a win against the Sparks. She outperformed her teammates on the boards with a 26-22 margin.
Sparks veteran Nneka Ogwumike, in her final season, also delivered a commendable performance with 16 rebounds in her double-double game. Despite Ogwumike’s efforts, the Dream secured a 78-71 win, moving to a 25-13 record. Positioned among the top five in the WNBA standings, the Dream is gearing up for playoff contention, with six games remaining.
