The Los Angeles Rams are approaching a crucial deadline for finalizing their 53-man roster for the upcoming NFL season. The cutoff date is August 30, leaving the team with limited time to make significant decisions.
A pivotal issue for the Rams is whether Aaron Donald, a former player for the team, will reverse his retirement decision. The intrigue around Donald’s potential comeback has intensified since the Rams recently acquired star passer Myles Garrett. The pairing of Garrett and Donald could create a formidable defense that captivates the football community.
Benjamin Royer of the Orange County Register reported the Rams are considering two scenarios: Donald’s return or his absence.
As Royer pointed out, there currently aren’t updates on Donald’s decision, one that comes over two years after his retirement. Coach Sean McVay mentioned the team has contingency plans for whether or not Donald rejoins the lineup. However, McVay hasn’t addressed what might happen if Donald decides to return after the Rams’ season opener against the San Francisco 49ers on September 10 in Melbourne.
If Donald opts to play, his appearance in Australia depends on his readiness to participate.
“If he decides he wants to be able to do it, then the next conversations are: What is your ramp-up?” McVay said.
The Rams are concentrating more on the present situation than speculating about the future.
McVay stated, “We’ve had to have a lot of fluidity and flexibility, and that’s what I’ve had to learn over 10 years. But I think what’s good is the thing that has served us well is let’s just stay one day at a time.”
