The Nancy Grace Roman telescope, named after NASA’s first chief of astronomy and one of its pioneering female executives, is on the brink of its launch from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
In Maryland, the telescope was meticulously assembled in a large clean room to ensure its components remained uncontaminated. Following this, it was carefully transported to Florida via barge, emphasizing the importance of protecting the integrity of the equipment during transit. Once in Florida, the telescope was secured within a towering 230-foot rocket, signaling its imminent departure to space.
As the telescope prepares to journey into orbit, it is destined to travel approximately a million miles away from Earth. This marks a significant milestone in NASA’s ambitious project, aiming to enhance our understanding of the cosmos.
