In his first game with the East Aurora football team, senior Daivon Douglas made a significant impact. Although the team lost 59-36 to Plainfield Central, Douglas stood out with 270 all-purpose yards. He transferred from West Aurora and sat out the previous semester, which delayed his football participation. Despite this, he quickly adapted and showcased his skills.
Douglas, standing at 6 feet and weighing 170 pounds, is known for his athletic ability. “I played football at West for my first two years,” Douglas shared. “I always intended to play wherever I went, although I missed last football season. Initially, I felt nervous, but I focused on doing my best during the game.”
During his first game, Douglas demonstrated his versatility by playing multiple positions. He ran five times for 114 yards and a touchdown, caught five passes for 156 yards with two touchdowns, and contributed defensively with several tackles and a forced fumble.
Nick Kukuc, the East Aurora football coach, praised Douglas for his adaptability. “Daivon can play anywhere,” Kukuc said. “He’s taken snaps at quarterback, running back, receiver, and he plays defense. He’s our Wildcat player and even our punter.”
Though East Aurora had a small team with only 22 players compared to Plainfield Central’s 48, Kukuc admired their performance. “Our small team showed resilience for three quarters, staying explosive,” he added.
Quarterback Joseph Becker also had a notable game, completing 16 of 32 passes for 290 yards, including four touchdowns, despite five drops. Senior receiver Alexander Carter contributed with three catches for 79 yards and two touchdowns. Kukuc highlighted the team’s depth in skill positions, noting the ability to rotate players if one is taken out.
Becker expressed his trust in Douglas, saying, “Though I only knew him from basketball, we clicked quickly over the summer. Within a week, he understood the playbook and adapted seamlessly.”
The Tomcats (0-1) are set to play their home opener against Fenton (1-0) in the Upstate Eight Conference crossover. The game will feature a new video scoreboard funded by the East Aurora Education Foundation and local supporters.
Douglas, who also participates in track, looks forward to contributing to his team’s success. “Playing for my team motivates me,” Douglas said. “He’s smart and adapts quickly,” Becker added. “Daivon turns potential failures into successful plays.”
