Matt Gogel, a golfer on the PGA Tour Champions, received a six-month suspension for betting on PGA Tour events. In a statement, Gogel admitted to making ‘small recreational wagers on golf’ in 2024 without realizing it.
I want to be clear that these wagers were not placed on regular PGA Tour events, PGA Tour Champions events, or any tournament in which I participated,” Gogel clarified in his statement released by the PGA Tour.
Gogel played the fifth tee at the Boeing Classic 2026 at The Club at Snoqualmie Ridge on August 16, 2026, shown in a Getty Images photo. He expressed a commitment to golf’s integrity and acknowledged his mistake, eager to return to the PGA Tour Champions in 2027.
Gogel will serve his suspension from Sunday until February 22, 2027. Although he never bet on tournaments he participated in, Gogel violated the Tour’s integrity program that prohibits wagering on PGA-sanctioned events.
In 2023, Vince India and Jake Staiano from the Korn Ferry Tour faced similar suspensions for betting, receiving six and three-month suspensions, respectively.
Gogel, now 55, marked his single PGA Tour win at the 2002 Pebble Beach Pro-Am. After his initial tour career, he transitioned to broadcasting with The Golf Channel and CBS Sports before joining the PGA Tour Champions at age 50.
Currently, Gogel ranks 20th in the Charles Schwab Cup points race.
