The Chicago White Sox showcased impressive performances from their outfielders in a 10-4 win against the Texas Rangers at Rate Field. Tristan Peters, playing left field, excelled with a 3-for-4 record, hitting a home run, driving in two runs, and scoring twice. This marked his fifth consecutive game with a home run, equaling a franchise record.
Center fielder Brenton Doyle contributed with two hits, including a three-run homer, totaling four RBIs during the game. Right fielder Braden Montgomery also made an impact, delivering an RBI double and crossing the plate twice. The victory allowed the Sox to capture two out of three games in the series.
White Sox manager Will Venable praised the entire lineup for their contributions, emphasizing the team’s cohesive effort. The team maintained its lead in the American League Central, staying 2.5 games ahead of the Cleveland Guardians.
“It was one of those days that everyone contributed,” Venable stated. “So really up and down the lineup, we had some good stuff going.”
Despite struggles from starter Sean Burke, who walked eight batters in over three innings, the team managed a successful outcome. Burke allowed two runs on two hits while striking out three, expressing disappointment over his performance.
“It was pretty terrible,” Burke admitted. “I said to (fellow starter Anthony) Kay when I walked in, that was probably one of the worst games I’ve had in any sport at any level my entire life. But it is what it is. Kind of just take it, flush it in the next 24 hours. Good time for an off day.”
Reliever Sean Newcomb provided three scoreless innings, while Jonathan Cannon finished with two runs over three innings to earn the save. The offensive efforts against Texas starter MacKenzie Gore, who allowed four runs in 3 2/3 innings, secured an early triumph.
Montgomery’s standout double initiated a two-run second inning. Meanwhile, Peters doubled and scored in a two-run fourth inning, and later hit a two-run homer off Robby Ahlstrom in the fifth, matching a franchise record held by notable players like Munetaka Murakami and Frank Thomas.
“Just seeing spin well, seeing it all well right now,” Peters remarked.
Doyle added a three-run home run in a decisive four-run sixth inning.
“I felt good all night,” Doyle expressed. “I was taking some good swings, just missing some pitches. Felt super confident up there and got a good one to put my ‘A’ swing on and luckily it went over the fence.”
The White Sox concluded their 4-3 homestand positively after facing a challenging period of 16 games within 16 days.
“Won another series, especially on this tough stretch,” Venable commented. “To finish it off nice really means a lot. These guys are working so hard, so nice to get a series win.”
