President Donald Trump announced a significant agreement on Friday involving the U.S. and Venezuela. This deal allows the U.S. to take control of Venezuela’s substantial oil reserves.

Trump stated that this agreement, executed under his directive, gives the U.S. majority control over more than 65 billion barrels of Venezuela’s proven oil reserves. Importantly, this deal comes at no cost to American taxpayers.

According to Trump, the deal will more than double the American oil reserves. Venezuela’s oil reserves are among the largest globally, representing approximately 17% of the world’s supply.

In an operation carried out in January, the U.S. military captured Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro. He faces federal charges for narcoterrorism and drug trafficking in the United States.

Trump faces increased scrutiny with midterms approaching and gas prices rising due to the conflict with Iran, which began six months ago.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised the deal. He described it as a major victory for both the U.S. and Venezuela.

It demonstrates how President Trump’s bold foreign policy is driving America First wins: securing stable reserves and low-cost oil in our Hemisphere and lowering gas prices here at home.

Rubio emphasized the benefits for Venezuela, which include nearly $100 billion in private investment. This investment is expected to support thousands of high-paying jobs and aid in economic reconstruction.

Venezuela’s reserves are estimated at 303 billion barrels of crude oil, around 17% of the world’s supply. Although these reserves are well-known and mapped, the country’s infrastructure issues limit its oil production to about 1% of the global supply.
