Following this, many news outlets, including CNN and MS NOW, scrutinized Harp’s actions. They particularly noted her letters to Trump and her involvement in a secret plane switch with the President.
CNN’s coverage reached a peak when they interviewed Harp’s estranged brother, which was met with some backlash. White House reporter Alejandra Jaramillo shared a post on social media claiming she “spotted” Harp working in the Oval Office. The post featured a photo of Harp standing while the President addressed reporters.
This report attracted criticism, especially from conservatives. Many commented on the unnecessary attention given to Harp simply performing her role. Tim Young from the Heritage Foundation interpreted CNN’s actions as an effort to suggest an untrue narrative about Harp and Trump.
Despite the headline-grabbing coverage, the White House defended Harp. Communications director Steven Cheung pointed out Jaramillo’s past criticisms of Trump. Though CNN did not comment, the media continues to focus extensively on Harp’s professional activities.
