Two men tragically lost their lives in a shooting outside a Tucson, Arizona bar known for its LGBTQ-friendly environment early Monday morning. The authorities are investigating the incident as a potential hate crime. The attack unfolded at Venture-N, located in midtown Tucson, with the suspect confronting and fatally shooting the victims in the parking lot.
Police identified the victims as Vincent Anthony Siqueiros, aged 42, and Cameron Davis Capara, aged 33. Both were declared dead on the scene. The suspect, Ousman Ceesay, aged 44, had gunshot wounds when officers arrived at the bar around 12:30 a.m. He succumbed to his injuries shortly after reaching a nearby hospital. Whether his wounds were self-inflicted remains unclear.
A note, found in Mr. Ceesay’s possession, included a list of LGBTQ-associated businesses, suggesting potential targets. As a precaution, police have increased patrols around LGBTQ venues throughout Tucson.
Public records reveal Mr. Ceesay had an address in Oklahoma City and no pertinent criminal history, apart from a speeding ticket in 2012. Court documents show that he filed for bankruptcy alongside his former wife in 2018. Efforts to contact her were unsuccessful. His past employment includes a brief stint as a driver for Uber and Lyft.
Tucson Mayor Regina Romero addressed the shooting publicly, describing it as a “direct and devastating attack on our LGBTQ community.” In a video shared on social media, she stressed the ongoing issue of homophobia in the country, calling the tragedy a stark reminder of its prevalence.
