PATTAYA, Thailand — Over 5,000 sailors and Marines from the USS Abraham Lincoln have arrived in Pattaya, Thailand, marking their first break following a record-long deployment. The deployment primarily consisted of operations related to the Iran conflict over the past nine months. The resort city’s atmosphere transformed as these service members swapped their military attire for casual wear. Shorts and flip-flops took the place of cargo pants and boots as they ventured into the city.
The sense of relief among the sailors and Marines was evident. After months at sea, Pattaya’s vibrant nightlife and leisure opportunities offered a refreshing change. They embarked on a well-deserved rest, relishing the amenities and attractions the city offers.
This welcoming gesture included Pattaya Mayor Poramet Ngampichet, who extended his hospitality to the U.S. service members by presenting them with souvenirs during a hotel event on Wednesday. This gesture added a personal touch to their visit, acknowledging their service and fostering goodwill.
The timing coincides with their recent return from deployment, offering them a chance to unwind and enjoy the city’s leisurely offerings. Their presence in Pattaya emphasizes the city’s role as a favored destination for sailors seeking respite from their demanding duties.
