Elon Musk’s super PAC revealed substantial expenditures aimed at supporting Republican Senate and House candidates in competitive races, spending more than $800,000 in the last month. Most of the funds were allocated to Texas and Maine, where Republicans aim to defend Senate seats.
America PAC’s August spending marks the beginning of Musk’s financial involvement in the 2024 election cycle. In 2024, Musk spent hundreds of millions backing President Trump and other GOP candidates. The New York Times reported an authorization of over $100 million by Musk for aiding Republicans in November.
The recent disclosures are limited to August and focus on independent expenditures across various expected competitive Senate races. Specific spending includes:
- Texas: $247,595
- Maine: $170,224.29
- Ohio: $105,675
- New Hampshire: $91,458.50
- Iowa: $54,600
- Michigan: $25,605
- Alaska: $17,235
Additionally, America PAC directed funds to Republican candidates in competitive House districts within Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Wisconsin.
House Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed a meeting with Musk in Texas, discussing the state’s critical House districts and Senate race between Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico. Johnson remained tight-lipped about conversations regarding Musk’s financial support for Republicans in the midterms, stating, “He’s made public a lot of what he’s doing. I’m going to talk about our conversation on that point, but we’re gonna win the midterms.”
The spending details emphasized “PRINTING,” suggesting mail advertisements were the primary focus. Chris Young, a GOP operative and former member of the Department of Government Efficiency, led by Musk, approved the expenses. Young was appointed by Musk in 2024 to manage America PAC and its financial strategies.
In a separate effort, America PAC invested over $207,000 in digital ads across Texas, Michigan, New Hampshire, and Maine. According to AdImpact and Facebook ad library records, these ads generally served as reminders to vote. One specific ad highlighted concerns about New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, stating: “You couldn’t vote in his election, and socialism declared victory over America’s biggest city. If you don’t vote in November, socialism could declare victory over America.”
Musk’s significant financial contributions were crucial in the 2024 elections, with America PAC spending over $239 million to support Republican candidates. According to Federal Election Commission filings, Musk was the largest donor for either party that year.
In a previous interview, Musk indicated a reduction in future political spending. “I think in terms of political spending, I’m going to do a lot less in the future,” he acknowledged, “I think I’ve done enough.”
