Fatal Crash in Miami-Dade Following Traffic Stop

A traffic stop in Miami-Dade led to a fatal incident on Wednesday night, as reported by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. The situation unfolded when deputies stopped a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Luis Manuel Perez at Northwest 51st Terrace and 33rd Avenue at 7:42 p.m. During the stop, deputies discovered Perez had an outstanding warrant.

Perez fled the scene as the deputies attempted to apprehend him. During the pursuit, Perez drove onto a dead-end street and attempted to escape by turning around. In the process, he ran a stop sign, resulting in a collision with another car, causing it to overturn.

The collision also impacted an unmarked vehicle belonging to the sheriff’s office. This vehicle was occupied by a deputy engaged in the search for Perez. The driver of the civilian car involved in the crash was critically injured and transported to Ryder Trauma Center by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, where they later died from their injuries. The identity of the deceased driver has not been released to the public.

Authorities later arrested Perez at Northwest 53rd Street and 33rd Avenue. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation, and the arrest affidavit indicates he is under a military hold. The Traffic Homicide unit of the sheriff’s office is conducting an investigation into the crash.

The report is subject to updates as more details become available over time.
