An Indiana farm has faced significant criticism for its decision to dedicate a corn maze to Charlie Kirk, the late founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA). Goebel Farms, located in Evansville, explained its choice as a tribute to Kirk’s dedication to free speech after he was fatally shot during a TPUSA event in Utah.
On September 10, 2025, Kirk, known for his polarizing speeches, was speaking at Utah Valley University when he was tragically killed. Despite the farm’s intentions, the announcement of the corn maze tribute led to a strong community reaction. Social media and Google reviews reflected negative feedback, and the farm ultimately removed its Google listing after marking itself as “permanently closed.”
In a statement to 14News, Goebel Farms acknowledged the division Kirk’s political stance might cause. Their objective was to encourage open dialogue rather than increasing division. They emphasized that while Kirk was a controversial figure, his assassination was a violation of the principles of free speech, stating, “No person should lose his or her life for participating in political discussion.”
The farm further highlighted the importance of ongoing conversations, even amid disagreements, to avoid viewing each other as adversaries. They stated, “Our hope remains simple: that Americans can speak openly, disagree honestly, and challenge one another’s ideas without hatred or violence.”
The accused in Kirk’s case, Tyler Robinson, faces several charges, including aggravated murder and obstruction of justice. A Utah judge has ruled that enough evidence exists to proceed with the trial.
Goebel Farms reiterated its identity as a family business, not a political organization, and expressed a desire for respectful and dignified community interactions.
