Jim Thornton Fired from ‘Wheel of Fortune’

Sony Pictures Television Studios has terminated Jim Thornton from his role as announcer for “Wheel of Fortune.” This decision followed a detailed investigation, according to a Sony spokesperson who confirmed the action to Fox News Digital on Friday.

Thornton’s dismissal is linked to his suspension earlier this week. He has served as the show’s announcer since 2011.

We have recently been made aware of allegations concerning Jim Thornton. He has been suspended from ‘Wheel of Fortune,’ and we are recasting while we conduct a thorough investigation, a Sony Pictures Television Studios spokesperson informed Fox News Digital on September 1.

Sony did not disclose specifics about the allegations against Thornton. Reports from TMZ indicate the incident is related to an American Airlines flight in May. A passenger’s complaint about Thornton’s behavior led to law enforcement meeting him at the gate.

American Airlines explained, “On May 14, American Airlines Flight 1276 was met by law enforcement upon arrival at Los Angeles International Airport following concerns reported by a customer onboard,” as told to TMZ.

Though law enforcement spoke to Thornton, TMZ reported he was not taken into custody. His attorney clarified that he did not commit any illegal acts or face any charges.

When questioned about the complaint made by a fellow passenger on the flight, law enforcement spoke to him for five minutes or less, immediately determined that no wrongdoing had occurred and told my client he was free to go, Thornton’s lawyer stated to TMZ.

Jim Thornton took over the role of announcer on “Wheel of Fortune” following the passing of the renowned Charlie O’Donnell in 2010.
