An Amazon Prime Air cargo plane crashed at Miami International Airport on Sunday, raising safety concerns and causing significant disruptions. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that Prime Air Flight 7598 overran the runway during its landing attempt at around 2 p.m. ET, following its departure from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

This incident led to ‘multiple patients,’ as reported by local fire officials, though it is unclear if there were any fatalities. A video circulating on social media shows the Boeing 767 plane, with Amazon Prime Air branding, resting beyond the runway perimeter and emitting thick black smoke from its engine.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded rapidly, deploying over 60 units to manage the ongoing fire and assist those affected. The scene remains active as first responders work to bring the situation under control.
The Federal Aviation Administration released a statement confirming that Flight 7598 took off initially from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Additionally, the FAA announced plans to investigate the circumstances leading to the crash.
The Miami-Dade Aviation Department reported that the cargo plane exceeded the diagonal runway limits and was stationary at the northwest end of the airport. As of 3:00 p.m., all runways and taxiways at Miami International Airport were closed. Consequently, the FAA implemented a ground stop initially until 3 p.m., which would extend further to 5:30 p.m. according to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy’s statement. This measure aimed to allow first responders unobstructed access to the crash site. Passengers have been advised to expect prolonged delays and potential flight cancelations.
According to Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel, 21 Air, a contract cargo carrier, operated the aircraft at the time of the accident. Nantel emphasized the company’s determination to glean clear details from the ongoing situation and pledged full cooperation with local authorities. The safety and well-being of all individuals involved takes precedence as Amazon navigates the aftermath.
