In the New Hampshire GOP primary, businessman Anthony DiLorenzo emerged victorious. DiLorenzo, endorsed by Trump, defeated Novel Iron Works owner Hollie Noveletsky and state Rep. Brian Cole. This primary was for the 1st U.S. House district of the Granite State.
The seat was left open by Rep. Chris Pappas, a Democrat running for the U.S. Senate. Competing for this moderately blue district, DiLorenzo’s win poses a challenge for Democrats. The Cook Partisan Voting Index rates this district as D+2, indicating a slight Democratic lean.
The 1st Congressional District includes southern New Hampshire, with Manchester, the largest city. Previously, Karoline Leavitt, a former White House Press Secretary, ran for this seat. In 2022, Pappas defeated Leavitt by a narrow margin of under 10%.
Throughout debates, GOP candidates largely concurred on issues. However, DiLorenzo was criticized for his immigration stance during a WMUR-hosted debate. He argued that deportations should focus on felons and violent criminals first. Noveletsky challenged him on this stance, differing in approach.
DiLorenzo emphasized support for law enforcement and deporting dangerous individuals. Trump’s endorsement highlighted DiLorenzo’s business acumen and alignment with ‘America First’ policies promoting job creation and energy dominance.
In addition to Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, and Majority Whip Tom Emmer supported DiLorenzo. Noveletsky had endorsements from New Hampshire state officials and Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx.
