The White House has defended President Donald Trump’s action of giving $45,000 in cash to Natalie Harp, a close aide. The payment is described as a personal holiday gift and deemed ‘entirely permissible’ under federal law and ethics guidelines.
Natalie Harp, who works as a special assistant and executive assistant to Trump, revealed the cash gift in her annual financial disclosure report. She identified Trump as the giver and classified the payment as a ‘cash gift for the holidays.’
This payment was part of three $45,000 cash gifts Trump provided to White House employees. Other recipients included communications adviser Margo Martin and White House aide Chamberlain Harris. These payments were added to their $150,000 yearly government salaries. Additionally, Trump gave a $20,000 gift to Oval Office operations director Walt Nauta.
