A Wendy’s franchise in Edmund, Oklahoma, has revived an infamous menu item. The T-Rex burger, a colossal nine-patty creation, has returned, challenging customers to finish it in nine minutes. Completing the challenge wins participants a T-shirt and a special prize.
The burger boasts a calorie count of 3,000 and is priced at $29.99. The promotional sign was shared on Reddit in early September, sparking varied reactions.
Reddit users expressed differing opinions on the enormous burger. Some criticized it as unhealthy, referencing potential health concerns like high cholesterol. Others joked about the physical challenge it presents. Meanwhile, supporters saw it as an exciting challenge, with one user calling it a decent deal.
Lauren Manaker, a dietitian, explained that consuming such a large, processed meal could lead to discomfort due to its high levels of sodium and saturated fat. She advised those attempting the challenge to share the experience, eat slowly, and balance it with healthier foods throughout the day.
According to an employee at the Edmund location, the promotion, starting September 10, will cover multiple restaurants statewide. The special prize includes a voucher for a free meal, although participants are not required to finish the fries and drink alongside the burger.
The T-Rex burger’s origins trace back to the mid-2000s, initially conceived as a joke in Sports Illustrated. Subsequently, a Canadian franchise in Brandon, Manitoba, offered it, but corporate intervened in 2013, discouraging consumption of the nine-patty burger.
Despite corporate’s stance, the burger survived as a secret menu item. Customers reportedly recreate it by ordering a Dave’s Triple and adding six extra patties, minus the promotional prize.
