Fatal Shooting by Stalker with Immigration Concerns

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported a tragic incident where a California woman, Shalini Thakur, 38, was fatally shot outside a Panera Bread in Sacramento County. The suspect, Rohit Rohit, an illegal immigrant from India, had been stalking her for months and was under a restraining order.

According to DHS, Thakur was near her car when Rohit approached and pursued her. He shot her in the head before fleeing the scene in a vehicle. Responding officers pursued Rohit, who ultimately took his own life.

The spokesperson from DHS stated, “This tragedy could have been avoided if the Biden administration had not released this individual into the country.”

The incident highlights concerns regarding immigration policies. Rohit, who entered the US illegally through Arizona, was released under a policy where migrants are allowed into the country with court dates.

Thakur had obtained a restraining order against Rohit, who was known to her as a DoorDash delivery driver. Reports indicated he parked outside her home and communicated with her frequently. An Apple AirTag was found under her car, and he attempted to manipulate her by proposing marriage and isolating her from others. Rohit even gained unauthorized access to her apartment while she slept.

Thakur’s mother, Sudesh Kumari, expressed frustration, explaining that her daughter had reported the situation to the police multiple times without receiving adequate assistance. Despite having a restraining order, Rohit continued his behavior up until the shooting.

DoorDash was contacted for a response but had not replied at the time of reporting.
