After transferring from Crown Point in Indiana, junior tight end Ty Kennedy quickly established himself in Mount Carmel’s football squad, filled with talented returning players. Kennedy adapted smoothly to the team, new school, and state. It wasn’t hard at all,
stated Kennedy. The culture here is fantastic. I couldn’t ask for anything better. Teammates, coaches, including Coach Jordan Lynch, are all amazing.
Kennedy is proving to be a valuable addition to the Caravan. In a 56-26 victory against Marist, he caught four passes for 66 yards and two touchdowns. Brady Cloherty threw for 295 yards and secured five touchdowns, helping the Caravan (4-0, 1-0) score 28 points in the final minutes after Marist pulled within eight points. Our goal was to start fast,
Cloherty commented. Coach Lynch motivated us, and we began scoring.
Marshaun Thornton contributed four catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns. Nathan Samuels, committed to Lindenwood, ran for 112 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. On Marist’s side, Jake Fleming passed for 211 yards, completing three touchdowns, while Nick Mayoski made a 16-yard TD catch and threw another to Conor Fleming. JJ Nash had four catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
In the game, Kennedy was a key target over the middle. He scored touchdowns of 22 and 16 yards, setting up a 28-7 lead at halftime. I’m fully integrated into the offense,
Kennedy noted. There’s mutual trust with my teammates. Being part of the Caravan feels great.
Like Kennedy, Cloherty also transferred this year, from Plainfield East, and they both adjusted together, quickly forming a strong connection. He wanted to learn the offense immediately,
Cloherty said. We studied together, ran routes, and built chemistry. Ty contributes significantly to the running game and receives well. He consistently delivers.
Kennedy is a three-sport athlete, also participating in basketball and lacrosse. Lacrosse, where I’m a midfielder, helps me move in open spaces on the football field,
Kennedy said. Basketball boosts my athleticism. Each sport complements the others. I’ll continue all three as much as possible. My dad believes the current season is my favorite. I love football.
Coach Lynch appreciates Kennedy’s versatility and ability to challenge opponents. He’s becoming a valuable option,
Lynch expressed. He’s learning the system, improving weekly, and he consistently practices hard.
College interest is growing, with Kennedy’s planned visits to Illinois and Northwestern highlighting his potential. It’s thrilling,
Kennedy added. I’m living my dream.
