On September 11, 2026, Americans came together to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Ceremonies were held at key memorial sites in New York City, northern Virginia, and southwestern Pennsylvania. Participants laid wreaths and flowers, observed moments of silence, and read the victims’ names aloud.
President Donald Trump addressed attendees at the Pentagon, affirming, “We will always remember the victims and families” of the 2001 attacks. Vice President JD Vance joined all living former presidents in New York to observe the occasion.
For the first time, the ceremony at Ground Zero included a moment of silence to honor those who died from illnesses linked to exposure at the site. Law enforcement officers carried a U.S. flag beside the reflecting pools during the ceremony.
Photographs captured these solemn moments as participants stood by the memorials. Juan Lopez, one of the many attendees, reflected at the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum while remembering his father, Leobardo, who passed away in the attacks.
Notable figures such as former Presidents Joe Biden and George W. Bush, former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and current Mayor Zohran Mamdani were present alongside New York’s Governor Kathy Hochul. They attended the commemoration ceremony in Manhattan, New York.
In Pennsylvania, attendees visited the Flight 93 National Memorial in Stonycreek Township. Families of the Flight 93 victims gathered at the crash site for a private ceremony. Yachiyo Kuge placed her hand on her son’s name at the Wall of Names, remembering his life. Paula Jacobs, along with her cousin Mary White Henderson, leaned on the Wall of Names to honor Louis J. Nacke II, another victim of the flight.
