The popular “RedZone” broadcast returns for its 18th season on Sunday. Previously known for commercial-free programming, host Scott Hanson addresses the inclusion of advertisements this season. Hanson explained in a recent interview the plan to include 15-second commercials between plays, stating, “There will be what people define as commercials,” which aim to minimize disruption during the games.
Last season, “RedZone” featured 16 advertisements at one point, departing from its traditional format. Hanson assures fans the number will be lower at the start of this season, though he is not involved in business decisions regarding advertisements. “Uncle Scott doesn’t make the decisions,” he stated.
Hanson shared that “RedZone” has viewers from unexpected places, including the White House during the past two administrations. Even NFL players, like Tom Brady and Josh Allen, have expressed appreciation for the program during off days.
Teaming up with Lowe’s for the “Earn Your Sunday” campaign, Hanson also has a diverse array of personal experiences. An adventurer at heart, he has visited six continents, including cage diving with great white sharks and exploring the Great Wall of China. When asked about his favorite adventures, Hanson mentioned climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and running with the bulls in Pamplona, stating, “Kilimanjaro was more beautiful, but the bulls required more courage.” He describes lions as more intimidating than sharks due to the lack of barriers in safaris.
Regarding his culinary preferences, Hanson chooses Mexican food over Chinese, sharing an anecdote about his experience with authentic Chinese dishes like duck tongue. His appreciation for Mexican food stems from the differences between American and mainland Chinese cuisine.
Seven hours of “RedZone” programming begins at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
