On Monday, Northern Irish First Minister Michelle O’Neill signed a joint declaration in Cardiff, Wales, affirming the right to self-determination. This event occurred alongside Welsh First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth, Scottish First Minister John Swinney, and Irish opposition leader Mary Lou McDonald, as they collectively advocate for their respective regions’ futures.
The leaders of Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have urged the British government to actively “prepare for, plan and facilitate” their potential independence. This call for action follows closely after Trump’s endorsement of Irish reunification.
