Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels was carted off the field during halftime in Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. He suffered an apparent left elbow injury on the last play of the first half. As Daniels attempted to regain his balance after tripping, he used his left arm to support himself, resulting in a hyperextended elbow.
Onlookers, including medical experts, noted the severity of the injury. Dr. David Chao, with 17 years as the San Diego Chargers’ head physician, commented on X stating, “By video, clear left elbow dislocation.” He highlighted that joint injuries can reoccur more easily once a ligament heals loosely.
The elbow gave way in a manner it is not supposed to bend.
This event mirrors a similar injury Daniels suffered in 2025 during a game against the Seattle Seahawks. Back then, an MRI determined no fracture or severe ligament damage, allowing him to avoid surgery. However, his recovery time included missed games, and he was shut down for the season’s final three weeks to prioritize his 2026 return.
Marcus Mariota stepped in as quarterback for the remainder of the game. Daniels’ condition leaves Washington’s season uncertain, particularly in the second week of play. This injury rekindles concerns from last season, where Daniels faced similar setbacks.
Washington’s offensive strategies may need reevaluation as Daniels undergoes yet another rehabilitation process. The team must now consider how to navigate the coming games without their primary quarterback.
