IC Catholic’s standout player, Grant Bowen, excels both at tight end and outside linebacker. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 205 pounds, the junior boasts 38 Division I offers from prestigious schools including Indiana, Texas, and Georgia. His remarkable skills have earned him attention across the college football landscape.
Grant values the guidance of his father, Matt Bowen, a former NFL safety and current assistant coach at IC Catholic. “Having him around is beneficial,” Grant explained, emphasizing the vital insights his father provides.
Aside from football, Grant also participates in basketball, and he has a history of playing various sports. Matt Bowen believes this multi-sport background enhances his overall athletic prowess. Grant’s rapid movement and explosive ability render him a formidable athlete.
The teaching at IC Catholic has contributed significantly to Grant’s growth. The father-son duo often discuss practice insights at home, strengthening their bond. “Coaching your own son is rewarding,” Matt expresses, appreciating the supportive environment at IC Catholic.
“The team loves coach Bowen,” remarks senior quarterback Nate Lang. “He’s the coach everyone connects with.”
In his third varsity season, Grant continues to impress. Last year, he recorded 34 catches for 731 yards and 11 touchdowns, coupled with 55 tackles, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery. As a team captain, Grant has maintained his momentum this year.
Coach Krefft acknowledges Grant’s unique skills, highlighting his unparalleled football IQ and versatility. Grant aspires to narrow his college choices after the season and eventually commit next summer. Despite the pressures of recruiting, the guidance from his father alleviates the challenges.
Matt Bowen notes the differences in modern recruiting, which starts earlier and involves greater communication with college representatives. “Grant has handled it maturely,” says Matt, proud of his son’s navigation through a demanding process.
Both father and son believe in Grant’s potential to soar higher. “I think he can play in the NFL,” Matt says, forecasting continued growth for Grant. For now, Grant focuses on leading his team towards another state championship.
“His play and knowledge set him apart,” Coach Krefft asserts, hopeful for the time left coaching Grant.
