The Chicago White Sox achieved a thrilling 14-11 victory over the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium, witnessed by 15,785 spectators. Chase Meidroth was pivotal, delivering a career-high five RBIs and a significant three-run homer in the third inning. He expressed his pride in helping his team: “When you come through for your team, there’s not a better feeling. Getting guys crossing the plate, it’s not easy to do that every day.”
The White Sox’s win maintained their position one game behind the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central. The Guardians narrowly won against the Boston Red Sox, ensuring the competition remains intense. Both teams have five games remaining in the regular season.
Chicago controlled the game, scoring consistently across the first four innings and building a strong lead. Five runs in the seventh inning solidified their advantage, despite a late surge from the Royals, including Vinnie Pasquantino’s grand slam. Manager Will Venable praised his team’s offensive dynamism: “Any time you put up a good amount of runs, much less 14, that’s a great day.”
Meidroth’s performance included a two-run single in the first inning and a key three-run homer, extending their lead significantly. Venable highlighted Meidroth’s growth and versatility as a player: “We know Chase has good plate discipline. He’s tapping into some slug as well. It’s really cool to see him grow as a player.”
Randal Grichuk contributed with a three-run homer in the fourth, finishing just short of a cycle in his 4-for-5 performance. The White Sox’s offensive display included four home runs, showcasing their power. Royals pitcher Daniel Lynch IV faced challenges, allowing nine runs on seven hits.
Sox pitcher Anthony Kay handled the early innings, experiencing mixed success, while Braden Montgomery and Grichuk provided crucial defensive plays to support their pitcher. Noah Schultz played a decisive role in stabilizing the situation, retiring six batters securely.
The offensive drive continued as Munetaka Murakami launched his 33rd home run, contributing to the team’s robust seventh inning. Venable emphasized the team’s strategic approach, focusing on the upcoming games: “We are in the spot that we want to be. We understand that we are taking this a game at a time.”
