Rep. Jared Golden Endorses Republican Mike Lawler for Re-election

Outgoing Representative Jared Golden, a Democrat from Maine, has given his endorsement to Republican colleague, Rep. Mike Lawler of New York, in the run-up to the 2026 midterm elections. In an opinion piece, Golden emphasized the choice facing voters in New York’s Hudson Valley this fall, stating that the Congress elected will reflect those choices.

Golden praised Lawler’s dedication to his role, mentioning, “Mike Lawler has been a true partner to me and a friend to fishing families he will never represent.” He expressed strong support for Lawler’s return to Congress and encouraged voters to elect representatives willing to work across party lines to pass laws.

“I strongly back him, and I hope voters send him back to work. Wherever you live, find the members who pass laws with the other party, and keep them.”

Golden has served in the House since 2019. He announced last year that he would not seek re-election in 2026. Lawler, who first took office in 2023, is actively campaigning for re-election this year.

Lawler shared his gratitude on social media, writing, “It’s an honor and a privilege to accept the endorsement of my friend, Democratic Congressman Jared Golden.” He highlighted their collaborative efforts on shared issues, suggesting that more bipartisan cooperation would benefit the country.

Lawler faces Democratic opponent Cait Conley in his re-election bid. Conley, a combat veteran, has served in several national security capacities, including with the National Security Council and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

Former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg recently voiced his support for Conley. At a rally in Tarrytown, N.Y., he expressed his pride in standing with her during the campaign.
