A six-year-old girl from China has achieved a new women’s world record in solving a 3×3 Rubik’s Cube, completing it in just over four seconds. State media reported this milestone on Tuesday.
Lian Yunzhi, the young speedcuber, broke the women’s 3×3 average world record twice within a span of three days. These achievements occurred during two World Cube Association certified competitions held in Wuhan and Guangzhou, as per CCTV reports on Monday.
In these competitions, she recorded averages of 4.52 and 4.27 seconds after five attempts. This performance makes Lian the first female speedcuber to average under 4.5 seconds, CCTV highlighted.
A video from CCTV showed Lian, nicknamed “Zhizhi,” deftly manipulating a Rubik’s Cube while wearing a red gingham bow. After completing the puzzle, she placed the cube on the table, clapped, and fist-pumped in celebration.
Lian’s mother, Lin Yangxi, mentioned that Lian was introduced to Rubik’s Cube as part of various extracurricular activities, which also included dance and music lessons. Lin gradually noticed the benefits of cubing in developing a child’s comprehensive abilities and began to prioritize it.
Lian has mastered over 1,300 algorithms for solving Rubik’s Cubes, dedicating two to three hours to practice daily. Photos from Red Star News displayed her numerous trophies at home.
According to Lin, solving a Rubik’s Cube enhances skills like focus, memory, logical thinking, and spatial awareness. It also encourages a positive mindset regarding winning and losing. She emphasized that it’s not only about memorizing formulas but applying logical reasoning to derive optimal solutions.
