The Philadelphia Phillies secured a tense victory over the Atlanta Braves in Game 2 of the National League Wild Card Series. Alec Bohm’s crucial homer in the 10th inning sealed the 4-3 win, setting the stage for a decisive Game 3.
The Phillies made a remarkable comeback after trailing 3-1. Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper hit back-to-back homers in the seventh inning, leveling the score. Harper’s redemption came after a previous fielding error that had contributed to Atlanta’s lead.
Andrew Painter played a pivotal role, pitching three scoreless innings. This effort preserved Philadelphia’s bullpen and kept Atlanta at bay. Painter successfully struck out Dominic Smith after Philadelphia won an ABS challenge.
Bohm’s winning homer was his third postseason career home run. The 357-foot shot came against Braves pitcher Didier Fuentes and followed traditional extra-inning rules with no designated runners.
The Phillies aim to maintain their postseason success against the Braves in the upcoming Game 3. Philadelphia previously defeated Atlanta in the 1993 NLCS, as well as the 2022 and 2023 NLDS.
In the earlier innings, Drake Baldwin’s double helped Atlanta grab a temporary lead. Harper, who returned to playing the outfield late this season, missed a chance to catch the ball, but the play was not recorded as an error.
Braves pitcher Tyler Mahle delivered a strong performance, allowing one run on six hits across seven innings. For the Phillies, Cristopher Sánchez gave up three runs during his 6.2-inning stint, reaching a personal best of 116 pitches.
The start time for Game 3 is pending, awaiting the conclusion of other Wild Card matchups. The game will be held in Atlanta, with MLB deciding between a start of 2:15 p.m. ET or 8:15 p.m. ET.
