Selma Blair Faces Legal Troubles After Alleged Airline and Hospital Incidents

Actress Selma Blair is facing legal challenges following incidents that occurred both in-flight and at a hospital in Queens. The events began with an alleged altercation on a Delta flight from Los Angeles to New York, where Blair was accused of being a “physically abusive passenger.”

According to a criminal court affidavit filed in Queens Criminal Court, registered nurse Ashley DeLeo was transporting Blair for further medical care at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. At around 2 a.m. ET, Blair allegedly kicked DeLeo in the chest, causing significant pain.

The court documents state that Blair, known for roles in “Cruel Intentions” and “Hellboy,” was arraigned on two counts of second-degree assault. Port Authority police arrested her after the Delta flight arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport. Two flight attendants reported injuries, with one requiring hospital care.

The affidavit outlines further accusations, stating Blair kicked Port Authority Officer Maria Suarez while being moved to an ambulance. Blair allegedly freed her leg from the stretcher straps, striking Officer Suarez around her face, neck, and chest, leading to swelling and pain. Suarez received treatment at a local Queens hospital.

Delta Airlines released a statement emphasizing its zero-tolerance policy for unruly or unlawful behaviors, prioritizing customer and crew safety.

Blair’s representative claimed the actress was experiencing a medical emergency that prompted the alleged acts. According to Blair’s attorney, the incident was unintentional, noting she missed doses of medication crucial for controlling severe neurological symptoms. Her lawyer, Shawn Barnes, explained that extensive work hours, coupled with the altitude, led to confusion and disorientation on Blair’s part.

Blair, who publicly discussed her multiple sclerosis diagnosis from 2018, was later released on bond. She is expected in court again in January.

Judge Indira Kahn expressed concern, stating, “I do believe she poses a risk.”
