Hobart quarterback Aleks Tatum experienced a memorable senior night, an event he had anticipated but perhaps did not fully grasp until it happened. As a third-year starter for the Brickies, Tatum found the moment emotionally significant. Reflecting on his journey, Tatum recalled starting out as a freshman on special teams and then becoming a sophomore starter. This progression involved building friendships and learning from older teammates who were excellent role models.

On the field, Tatum delivered a standout performance against Hanover Central during a Northwest Crossroads Conference game. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound quarterback completed 8 of 12 pass attempts for 210 yards, scored four touchdowns, and rushed for 77 yards. The Brickies defeated the Wildcats 42-14, a crucial win after losing back-to-back games to Andrean and Lowell.

Coach Eric Schreiber Jr. praised Tatum’s ability to reset after challenging games. Tatum took a mental break following the losses to regain his composure and focus. His performance against Hanover Central showed his growth and adaptability as a player. Schreiber noted Tatum’s learning experience over these two weeks, emphasizing they were fortunate these lessons came before the postseason.

Tatum’s impressive stats going into the game included completing 62 of 104 pass attempts for 1,255 yards and 13 touchdowns, with only one interception. He also rushed for 300 yards with five touchdowns. Against Hanover Central, he connected with junior Miles White and senior wide receivers Stephen Miller and Bryce Tolliver for crucial touchdown passes.

Tatum earned respect from teammates, with White referring to him as the team’s leader, akin to a father figure. Tolliver, who caught a 97-yard interception return for a touchdown, shared a strong connection with Tatum, both on and off the field.

Coach Schreiber described Tatum as the “heart and soul” of the team. Tatum’s influence extends beyond the field, touching the community. Younger fans look up to him, even seeking autographs as a token of their admiration. Schreiber commended Tatum’s leadership skills, noting his accountability during film reviews and his willingness to learn from mistakes. Tatum’s maturity serves as a valuable example for his teammates.

Tatum reflected on his progression as a player, not just in physical capabilities but in mental resilience. Starting at 175 pounds as a sophomore, he developed a deeper understanding of leadership. He aims to be a guiding figure for younger players, describing it as an evolution in maturity both on and off the field.

Tatum is exploring college football opportunities, weighing offers from Wabash and Trine along with interest from Grand Valley State and Findlay. Schreiber emphasized the ongoing nature of Tatum’s recruitment process, supporting his player’s pursuit of the right fit. Tatum remains passionate about football, expressing a strong desire to continue playing at the collegiate level.
