Golden State Valkyries Achieve Record Success in Second WNBA Season

The Golden State Valkyries have experienced unprecedented success in their second WNBA season. Forbes recently valued them as the league’s highest franchise just as the WNBA marks its 30th season. In 2025, the Valkyries made history by becoming the first expansion team to make the playoffs in their debut season. They also achieved a league attendance record, selling out every home game and attracting over 18,000 fans on average per match.

The Valkyries continued their impressive performance by defeating the Dallas Wings in Game 3, clinching their first playoff series win. Valkyries forward Gabby Williams played a crucial role, scoring 19 points and helping the team overcome a 16-point deficit to secure a 77-73 victory. The dramatic game saw Golden State rally in the later stages, setting up a semifinal match against the reigning champions, the Las Vegas Aces.

“We made a promise to ourselves we are going to play the best four quarters of our lives,” said Valkyries coach Natalie Nakase.

The game ended with Nakase celebrating with her team at midcourt, having successfully challenged a crucial call in the final moments. Key players included Veronica Burton, who contributed 16 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists, and Tiffany Hayes, who scored 18 points from the bench. The Valkyries will face the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday for Game 1 of the semifinals, while the Atlanta Dream competes against the New York Liberty in the other semifinal tie.

The Valkyries’ success reflects their strong performance on and off the court, capturing the attention of fans and the league alike.
