Carmel’s Kristian Chadick: A Rising Defensive Star

Carmel junior defensive end Kristian Chadick recorded his first sacks of the season amidst a busy schedule, visiting both Penn State and Illinois. Chadick’s performance in the Corsairs’ recent game against Marist highlights his growing reputation. He remarked, “That’s a perfect example of me being in the zone during a game, making my presence known.” College coaches are noticing Chadick as well.

His first Division I offer came from Iowa in late spring, sparking a surge in interest. Since then, Chadick has received offers from schools including Cincinnati, Florida Atlantic, North Dakota State, Northwestern, Purdue, Rutgers, and Vanderbilt. He plans to visit Kentucky soon and has a trip to the defending national champion Indiana lined up. “It feels great to have several places to consider,” Chadick said. “I don’t have a set timeline, but if I find the right school, I’ll know it.”

At 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, Chadick contributes significantly to the Corsairs, having logged 37 tackles and two pass breakups this season. He recognizes the need for improvement. “There are always areas to enhance, and I constantly keep that in mind,” he stated. “Improving my tackle technique and grip on ball carriers is essential. You always want to finish the job.”

Carmel coach Jason McKie praises Chadick’s consistency and disruptive play, noting that stats don’t capture his full impact. “He may not have standout sack numbers, but his consistent attack is remarkable,” McKie said. “He’s always disrupting plays and getting into the backfield, thanks to his arm reach and length. I’ve known him since middle school, and his work ethic has always been strong. These traits make him appealing to colleges.”

In a Catholic League game against St. Laurence, Chadick’s influence was evident. As a first-year starter in 2025, he recorded 28 tackles with 10 for loss and seven sacks. Chadick focuses on utilizing his reach effectively. “I’m attacking more, aiming for gaps right on the snap,” he emphasized. “I try to use my arm extension aggressively and stay gap-sound.”

Junior Noah Breckenridge, Chadick’s teammate on the defensive line, observes Chadick’s impact on film. “He’s really long,” Breckenridge noted. “A running back can be 4 yards away, and he still reaches them. Our defense’s primary goal is to stop the run by reading keys, and his key is the running back. He consistently reaches the backfield. He’s reliable when we need a big play.”

Chadick has worked on his strength, dedicating himself to the weight room in the offseason. He gained 30 pounds since his freshman year, with McKie predicting he might exceed 250 pounds next season. “This year, I notice a big difference in my strength,” Chadick said. “I wanted to prove my strength in the offseason. Now, shedding blocks is easier because I can remove linemen from me quickly.”

This season, Chadick also embraces more responsibility. “As an upperclassman, I must be accountable both on and off the field,” he said. “Though there’s pressure, I’m happy as long as I play, and at the end of the day, I need to do my job.”
