The Kansas City Chiefs made a strategic move by acquiring running back Kenneth Walker III during the offseason. The decision has paid off immensely in the opening four games of the 2026 NFL season.
Walker has emerged as the leading rusher in the NFL this year, amassing 537 yards on the ground. This places him ahead of notable players such as Atlanta’s Bijan Robinson, Buffalo’s James Cook, Baltimore’s Derrick Henry, and Indianapolis’ Jonathan Taylor. The reigning Super Bowl MVP has also contributed significantly in scoring, with four rushing touchdowns. His receiving skills have added 12 catches for 84 yards and two more touchdowns.
Walker’s 537 rushing yards over the first four games mark a 15-year high in the NFL. Previously, the highest record for this period belonged to DeMarco Murray, who now coaches the Chiefs’ running backs, with his 534-yard performance.
In response to Walker surpassing his record, the Chiefs humorously acknowledged on social media, “Nothin’ like breaking your own coach’s record.”
Thanks to Walker’s exceptional performance, the Chiefs have kicked off the 2026 season with a 4-0 record. Following their recent victory against division foes, the Las Vegas Raiders, Kansas City heads into their Week 5 bye with confidence.
Looking ahead, the Chiefs will resume play with a Week 6 game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
