Professional golfer Corey Pavin announced that his wife, Lisa, is returning to the hospital for cancer treatments. Despite completing her final round of chemotherapy earlier this year, the cancer persisted. Corey shared through social media that Lisa would begin cell-based gene therapy, aiming to address the lingering illness.
The exact type of cancer Lisa is fighting has not been disclosed. Corey initially revealed in February that Lisa had completed chemotherapy. However, he later posted, “Seven plus months ago, I shared that Lisa had her last chemotherapy. We learned that her cancer never went away completely.”
Despite the challenging news, Corey remains hopeful. “After several visits to The Mayo Clinic, Lisa is getting her CAR-T infusion today. We are hoping and praying that this will kick her cancer’s a–!” he shared online. This therapy represents a new opportunity to combat the disease.
The emotional and physical toll on the Pavin family has been significant. Corey praised Lisa for her bravery and expressed gratitude for the medical staff and supportive community around them. “To the doctors, nurses, and everyone at The Mayo Clinic, a heartfelt thank you for your care and empathy,” he wrote. He also thanked friends who have provided prayers and support, acknowledging their positive impact.
Comments from Corey’s followers have been overwhelmingly supportive, with messages of encouragement from former athletes like Troy Aikman, Kenny Lofton, and Teemu Selänne. Despite these personal challenges, Corey continues to participate in golf competitions. He recently played in the Sanford International, maintaining his connection to the sport he cherishes.
