Talib Shakir, who served as the director of the Mayor’s Office of Returning Citizen Affairs, lost his life in an electric scooter accident on Friday evening.
Shakir’s mother described him as someone committed to improving his life and serving the community. He was 50 years old.
D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser’s office, along with D.C. police, confirmed his death on Saturday.
The Mayor’s Office of Returning Citizen Affairs focuses on providing support and services for individuals who have been formerly incarcerated, helping them reintegrate into society.
