Washington — President Trump stated that he and his administration are considering firing Kimberly Guilfoyle from her role as U.S. ambassador to Greece. This follows allegations that she asked an associate to wire $100,000 to settle her American Express bill in return for assistance with the Trump administration before her Senate confirmation hearing.
“We’re looking at it,” President Trump said to reporters while en route to Ohio when inquired about the potential dismissal of Guilfoyle. “We’re not happy,” he added.
Businessman Eric Deters informed CBS News last week that he believes the request was a “pay-to-play” scheme when Guilfoyle allegedly asked for the funds. Deters shared screenshots of text messages with Guilfoyle, including one where she seemingly requested the money. Deters clarified he never transferred any funds to her.
“Unfortunately for Kimberly Guilfoyle, at that time, I didn’t have $100,000 to spare, or I might have foolishly done it,” Deters commented.
Guilfoyle’s lawyer challenged the authenticity of the texts in a statement to The Wall Street Journal, which initially reported on the matter.
Trump nominated Guilfoyle, who is the ex-fiancée of Donald Trump Jr., to serve as the top envoy to Greece. Her confirmation hearing occurred in July 2025, and she was confirmed in September.
Recently, Ambassador Guilfoyle was prominently visible during Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit to Greece. The accompanying photo documents President Donald Trump with Guilfoyle and other distinguished guests at a reception celebrating Greek Independence Day in the White House in March 2026.
This is a developing story.
