San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw found himself facing disciplinary action following Sunday’s intense game against the Seattle Seahawks. The NFL announced Monday that Greenlaw would be suspended for one game without pay due to his actions during the match.
On the field, Greenlaw collided with Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold as Darnold was moving out of bounds. This action drew a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. However, the situation escalated further when Greenlaw headbutted Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones, who had confronted him without a helmet.
Greenlaw is set to return to the active roster on October 20 after the 49ers’ game against the Washington Commanders. Although he is entitled to appeal the suspension under the collective bargaining agreement, there is no indication yet of his intention to do so. Any appeal would be overseen by hearing officers who are former NFL players.
Greenlaw’s past incidents suggest a tendency to act aggressively. He was fined last week for taunting the Broncos’ sideline and head coach Sean Payton. Additionally, in 2023, Greenlaw and Philadelphia Eagles head of security Dom DiSandro were disqualified after a confrontation.
This suspension adds to the challenges faced by the 49ers this season. Team owner Jed York is currently serving a suspension due to a violation of the personal conduct policy after an arrest in Ohio.
