ABC News is facing potential legal repercussions over a controversial report involving the Trump family. The report involved venture capital firm 1789 Capital, which is considering legal action. According to 1789 Capital’s spokesperson Alexa Henning, ABC News published false information and can’t escape consequences for these inaccuracies.
Henning emphasized the firm plans to call out ABC News to ensure the public knows the truth. The original ABC News report was deleted without explanation and later republished with revisions. It claimed that companies linked to President Trump’s sons received billions in government contracts with misleading details about the firm’s investment in Anduril Industries. Initially, it suggested a $2.5 billion investment, whereas the correct figure was $50 million.
“We’re not taking options off the table,” Henning stated.
The original report’s publication drew significant attention online, with prominent figures sharing it. ABC News’ revised version included an acknowledgment of errors but no explanation or apology to 1789 Capital. The revised headline shifted focus away from Trump’s family investments.
Henning criticized ABC News for not seeking 1789 Capital’s comments before publishing the initial report. She believes those working on the piece should have a clear understanding of venture capital investments before reporting.
Senator Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, has urged the FCC to investigate ABC News’ handling of the report. Henning attributed the inaccurate report to a mix of “laziness” and an agenda against the Trump family.
Internal sources at ABC News reportedly admitted to the significant mistakes privately. Henning disclosed that 1789 Capital’s legal team is monitoring discussions with both ABC News and its parent company, Disney, for any possible legal action.
ABC News has not responded to requests for comment regarding these allegations.
