Dodgers Catcher Will Smith Balances Baseball with Family Joy in NLCS

The Los Angeles Dodgers are currently trailing the Milwaukee Brewers 2-0 in the NLCS. As the series moves to Los Angeles, the Dodgers need their top players performing at their best. Catcher Will Smith has had an eventful week beyond his baseball commitments. Smith’s attention is understandably divided as his wife delivered their third child.

Cara Smith, Will’s wife, announced on Instagram the birth of their daughter, Carter. The Smiths’ family is growing, all in October, having welcomed Charlotte in 2022 and Layton in 2024, a significant year when the Dodgers clinched the World Series.

Will Smith took advantage of the break between games to be with his family. He now returns to the field, catching for Blake Snell in a crucial game. The Dodgers aim to prevent the Brewers from extending their series lead, understanding the difficulty of overcoming a 3-0 deficit in a seven-game series.

Smith is hoping for a turnaround in his performance at the plate. So far this postseason, he has struggled, achieving only one hit in 19 at-bats with eight strikeouts. Unfortunately, Smith isn’t alone in his struggles. Shohei Ohtani has also faced challenges due to injuries, affecting his performance. Despite these issues, Manager Dave Roberts is keeping Ohtani in the lineup, shifting him to the role of designated hitter against the Brewers’ pitcher Robert Gasser.

Smith will continue in his position as catcher and will bat after Ohtani. The Dodgers aim to harness their full potential to revive their chances in the series.
