Tensions in the Booth: Aikman and Buck’s Pre-Game Disagreement

Troy Aikman and Joe Buck came together for Week 5’s “Monday Night Football” broadcast featuring the Buffalo Bills against the Los Angeles Rams. While the broadcast seemed normal on ESPN, reports indicated a pre-game disagreement between the two commentators.

Joe Buck recently agreed to a six-year contract extension with ESPN, maintaining his role as the voice of “Monday Night Football.” This new deal reportedly created some friction with Troy Aikman, who has yet to receive an official extension offer.

According to Ryan Glasspiegel, a sports media insider from Front Office Sports, Buck addressed the underlying tension before the broadcast on Monday night. The conversation reportedly led to an argument between Buck and Aikman, which eventually cooled down.

Buck and Aikman hold the distinction of being the longest-serving broadcast duo in NFL history. Before their transition to ESPN in 2022, they spent two decades as broadcasting partners at Fox.

Looking ahead, Buck and Aikman are set to commentate on Week 6’s “Monday Night Football” game between the Washington Commanders and San Francisco 49ers.
