Kamala Harris Faces Mixed Reactions on Potential 2028 Run

Former Vice President Kamala Harris is considering another presidential run in 2028, stirring diverse opinions among Democratic strategists and donors. A Politico report reveals skepticism from some party insiders regarding Harris’ political trajectory post her 2024 election loss.

Democratic strategist Maria Cardona defended Harris against criticisms, highlighting her policy proposals and campaign activities. Cardona described the report’s criticisms as ‘infuriating in its silliness.’ Her defense pointed to Harris’s initiatives, such as expanding the Supreme Court, lowering the voting age to 16, and granting statehood to DC and Puerto Rico, asserting these policies reflect substantial change.

However, Democratic strategist Doug Herman conveyed disappointment, suggesting Harris ‘totally blew it’ by failing to engage effectively. Former Gov. Jim Hodges echoed similar sentiments, stating he expects ‘more of the same.’

Cardona disagrees with the notion that Harris hasn’t outlined new offerings for Democrats. She argues Harris remains qualified for presidency, citing her outreach to diverse voter groups and active campaign trail participation.

Harris embarked on a book tour promoting her memoir, ‘107 Days,’ while supporting Democratic candidates in the midterm elections. Despite her efforts, some candidates in conservative states requested Harris not participate in their campaigns, contrasting with others who welcomed her support.

Following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 race, Harris succeeded him but failed against Donald Trump after a brief campaign. A potential third run may grant Harris immediate recognition and goodwill within her party, although the 2028 field promises to be crowded and competitive.

While anonymous Democratic consultants suggest negative memories from 2024 remain fresh, strategist Michael Ceraso argues consultants lack voter insight. He likens Harris’s situation to Biden, who succeeded after multiple attempts, suggesting Harris might follow a similar path.
