Ole Miss coach Pete Golding, known for his defensive focus, recently faced scrutiny after the Rebels allowed 52 points in a game against Florida. Such criticism is expected under those circumstances. However, in the span of 21 days, the Rebels demonstrated a remarkable turnaround.
In a dominant display, Ole Miss overwhelmed Missouri, winning 31-3. Missouri, ranked 13th, came with a formidable offense, highlighted by its top-ten rushing game and talented quarterback Austin Simmons. Despite this, Ole Miss effectively contained them.
Credit goes to Golding and his defense. The team restricted Missouri to only 39 rushing yards. Simmons, a senior, managed 340 passing yards but needed close to 50 attempts, showing how Ole Miss kept him uneasy throughout the match.
Ole Miss also excelled offensively. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss delivered when necessary, contributing three passing touchdowns and another on a run. The Rebels’ ground game, led by Kewan Lacy and Makhi Frazier, amassed 257 rushing yards, exploiting Missouri’s defense.
This loss was significant for Missouri, affecting their College Football Playoff aspirations. Conversely, Ole Miss regained momentum, with key objectives within reach. However, they face a challenging upcoming schedule, including games against Georgia, Oklahoma, and Mississippi State.
The Tigers, aiming to recover, will visit Arkansas next. Meanwhile, the Rebels prepare for their next test against Texas, hoping to maintain their performance levels.
