Ohio State’s Julian Sayin Faces Indefinite Absence Due to Shoulder Injury

Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day recently announced troubling news for the team. Quarterback Julian Sayin will be out indefinitely due to a shoulder injury. Day initially mentioned Sayin would be sidelined for “several weeks” after injuring his throwing shoulder following a 19-15 win over Indiana.

The situation has now evolved. Day and his team are preparing for the possibility of Sayin missing the rest of the regular season and the College Football Playoff. Sayin’s absence complicates the Buckeyes’ season, as they adjust to competing without their starting quarterback.

Day stated, “We’re not going to put any timeline on his recovery, but he is out indefinitely.” The team is focusing on providing Sayin and his family with privacy during this challenging time. Due to the injury’s nature, plans are underway for Sayin to be unavailable for both the regular and postseason.

Luke Fahey, a true freshman who replaced Sayin in the fourth quarter against Indiana, will take over as the Buckeyes’ starter. Ohio State has a bye this weekend, offering a chance to adjust their strategy before facing No. 16 USC on Halloween.

Sayin’s injury occurred when Hoosiers defender Mario Landino sacked him, impacting his throwing shoulder and causing a fumble. Sayin left for evaluation and returned with his arm in a sling. While specifics about the injury are unclear, the situation suggests a severe issue, evidenced by the team’s current preparations.

This season, Sayin was proving his potential as a top NFL Draft pick, recording 1,772 passing yards and 17 touchdowns with only two interceptions. His performance was instrumental in maintaining Ohio State’s No. 3 ranking in college football.

Fahey, a three-star recruit from California, now has the opportunity to prove himself. Day commented on Fahey’s future, “He’s got confidence, he’s got athletic ability, he’s a competitive kid. I don’t think the moment was too big for him,” showing faith in Fahey’s abilities to keep the Buckeyes competitive.
