In another incident, a 27-year-old Honduran national allegedly attacked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers with a hammer in New Jersey. Federal prosecutors report that Reinieri De Jesus Licona Amador faced assault charges in Camden federal court as per the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey.
“Federal officers put themselves in harm’s way to enforce the law and protect the public,” U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer stated. “We will hold those accountable under the law for violent attacks on officers,” he added.
The incident reportedly occurred during a targeted ICE operation in Gibbsboro, New Jersey. Officers noted Licona Amador climbing onto his truck’s side door and swinging a hammer. Despite orders to cease, he allegedly persisted, which led officers to use oleoresin capsicum spray before arresting him. No injuries occurred.
If convicted of assaulting federal officers with a dangerous weapon, Licona Amador could face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
