Chicago law enforcement is investigating the death of Maria Delgado, a 54-year-old Gage Park resident, who passed away in a hospital more than a week after experiencing a fall and being involved in a domestic battery incident. Delgado had been hospitalized since October 9th following her fall at an unspecified event she was attending that evening.
According to Chicago police, while en route to the hospital, Delgado engaged in a dispute with a 58-year-old man concerning the fall. During the argument, the man allegedly struck Delgado across the face in the West Elsdon neighborhood’s 3900 block of West 58th Street. The man was arrested at the hospital and faced charges for a misdemeanor count of domestic battery.
Delgado succumbed to her injuries last Saturday afternoon at Stroger Hospital, as confirmed by police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. On Tuesday, the medical examiner’s office reported that the cause of death remains pending, contingent on the outcomes of the ongoing police investigation as well as additional studies.
The investigation led by Wentworth Area detectives continues to be active as of Tuesday evening, according to police sources.
