Dan Lanning, the head coach of the Oregon Ducks, is gathering information regarding the arrest of wide receiver Evan Stewart. Lanning emphasized that the team will take ‘appropriate action’ once all details are known. ‘There will be an appropriate action taken. Still gathering some details with what that situation looks like,’ Lanning stated.

Lanning mentioned the matter would be handled internally. ‘That would be handled internally. I’m not gonna respond to any other questions about that. We’re gonna handle that with our guys,’ he added.

Stewart was arrested early Sunday, facing charges of driving under the influence just hours after Oregon’s victory against Nebraska. According to police records, he was booked into the Springfield Municipal Jail.

Lanning acknowledged the incident was unfortunate, as it overshadowed the Ducks’ success. Stewart did not play against the Cornhuskers due to an undisclosed injury. This season, he has recorded 27 catches for 352 yards and four touchdowns, following his absence last season due to a right patellar tendon tear.

‘There was an incident this weekend that didn’t match our standard here in our program,’ Lanning commented. Oregon’s head coach was seen before the game against James Madison Dukes at Autzen Stadium on December 20, 2025. (CFP/Getty Images)

Looking forward, Oregon is set to visit Illinois for a Big Ten game. The status of star quarterback Dante Moore is uncertain, as he has missed the last two games while recovering from a concussion.

Lanning noted that Moore participated in practices leading up to Oregon’s Week 6 matchup with UCLA. However, quarterbacks Brock Thoman and Dylan Raiola played during the Ducks’ narrow 17-15 loss to the Bruins. Both also saw action against Nebraska.
