Paul George made a strong impact in his first game with the Boston Celtics on Tuesday. He scored 31 points through three quarters when facing the Detroit Pistons.
George’s performance set a new all-time franchise record for the most points by a player in a Celtics debut. He surpassed Kristaps Porzingis, who scored 30 points in his first game with Boston in 2023.
At 36, George is in his 17th NBA season. He joined the Celtics this offseason as part of a significant trade that sent Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers.
George was effective from long range, hitting six of eight three-pointers during the first three quarters. Maintaining this level of production could make him an ideal partner for star forward Jayson Tatum.
On the night, George compensated in scoring for Tatum, who struggled with his shooting, missing all seven of his three-point attempts.
Despite George’s impressive 38-point effort, the Celtics fell to the Pistons with a final score of 121-113.
